How can I make an adapter for a cable release?

I have a 20″ Adorama cable release that does not fit into my T1i. This was quite disappointing, but I have heard of people making adaptors for such situations. How could I make such an adapter, where could I buy a cheap one, or any other advice?
I don’t want the adapter to be permanent.

It helps if you list the make of your camera. Is that the canon eos rebel you are talking about?

Is the adorama cable release the universal one for old cameras (that you screw into the shutter button) or is it suppose to be one specifically for the canon rebels series? (not all canon eos cameras use the same shutter release. For example the rebels use one kind, the 650 uses another kind, the 10s uses another kind, the D30 uses another kind, the Marks use a different one, etc.). Also, one for a nikon or a sony would not work on a canon.

If you can find an adapter to buy, that would probably be easier than making one yourself.
