What is the best Nikon or Canon digital SLR?

I need a good Nikon or Canon DSLR for a beginner who is easy to carry. Thank TastesLikeCandyCanesAtChristmas!

The top entry level SLRs are rated Nikon D40, D60 and D80 and the Canon XTi and XSI. The best you can do is try everything in a store, you know what you like. Personally, I love them all, but a little thin at the Canon XSi. But it is a matter of what you like and what you want to invest in a camera. The D40 is cheaper and still a favorite for a reflex input.
