Is there a significant difference between learning the Canon Digital Rebel XT and Canon 40D?

My plan is to rent a Canon 40D at some point at the end of this month. Currently I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I wonder is there a big difference in learning between the two cameras? What in the 40D I have to learn this is not on the Digital Rebel? My plan of shooting in the manual and raw materials.
