How do I make a memory card work?
So my friends were over my house and we were having a photography session with my Canon Powershot SD1000 and an Impact 1G SD card. I’ve used the card and camera a couple of times before; we got them both in December (it’s April). It had about 100 pictures, and then I tried to turn it on and it said “memory card error” when it hadn’t been dropped or anything- just in my pocket! Do you know any way I can get my pictures?!?! I put so much work into them!
It’s no problem. Just take no more pics until you’ve recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here’s some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you’re looking for:

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don’t have one, get one, they’re cheap:

After you’ve recovered the pictures, you will need to format the card in your camera to get the card working again. Look for the “format” option in your camera’s menus. Select “Low Level” format if available. Again do this only AFTER you’ve recovered your photos, as a low level format will permanently erase them from the card.
