What color do you get if you mix infrared and ultraviolet?
As yellow and blue-green. What color is obtained when mixed with ultra-violet – green means?
You'd have half the wavelength of light between two colors. If you look at the electromagnetic spectrum (Http://www.dnr.sc.gov/ael/personals/pjpb/lecture/spectrum.gif) you can see that when you mix yellow and blue, go green because green is between these two wavelengths of light. And it seems that green because 50% of the atoms are emitting 450 nm (blue) wavelength, and 50% are emitting at 600 nm (yellow) light. But as they are mixed and so close together that your brain interprets as a green light. For example, if you had something green and looking through a filter that filters all the atoms of light blue, yellow see because they are left (you can see). Another example is when is heated to something (like an electric stove), the red heating element because the atoms in it shaking so fast they are generating the IR (heat) is assumed, but some, if not most of the atoms are also slightly more energetic to enter the visible spectrum. And if I had to heat the atoms would shock even faster and faster all issued by different wavelengths of radiation, and as you know if you mix all the colors together you get white light, so it starts to glow red hot. After reading other replies, I realize both IR and UV could not be averaged by the brain as the colors may be visible. Therefore, their mixture, it would still be invisible to humans. However, if you were able to eliminate the limits of the human eye and / or brain and see this mix with any device that is light visible and IR and UV together: Assuming you are using the wavelengths of UV and IR that are very close to see the light, the color is green. Because that UV 350nm and 750nm ~ ~ IR 50/50 mixture would assume would mean 1100 / 2 = 550, so that the wavelength is green. That said, it makes me wonder if it has something to do with our sensitivity to green light … interesting question!
