Need advice on Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K or recommendations for a ultra compact digital camera?

Currently I have a Fujifilm FinePix S7000. I think the camera is slow in response compared to other devices on the market … and it is too big for me to carry. I am not a professional photographer … and I intend to replace my S7000 with more compact, you can always take great pictures. I did research online and saw the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9K. At 6.0 megapixels, optical image stabilization and 3x optical zoom for shaky hands like me. line of descent $ 300. Does anyone have any experience with this device? I wonder if the picture quality is a big difference in my S7000. There are a number ultra-compact digital cameras that are in the same price range … like the Canon SD300/400/500 … Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to choose? Thank you!
