why wont my trunk release button work?

i have a 1996 cadillac eldorado and it has a trunk release button that doesnt work all of the sudden. Also I have a gas release button that stopped working also. even the light that usually lights both buttons isnt on. What could it be?

check the glovebox for a switch that says valet as it may be on
