Release Cable

is cable release necessary if i want to get a remote trigger?

i read somewhere a list of things you can get with your slr, one of them was ‘cable releases and remote triggers’. i’m assuming that’s the remote thing that you use instead of pressing the button on the camera, right? however i went on the futureshop site to see what features my camera has, the canon rebel xs (can’t have it till sunday), and it says ‘cable release: no’. does that mean i won’t be able to use remote triggers?
