Will a nikon n55 film lense work with a dslr d3000 nikon camera body?
i think i know AF stands for auto focus but what does the s stand for? and this is the lense nikon n55 28-80mm/f-3.5 to 5.6 zoom lens. I know it does auto focus on my camera if that helps at all?

If that is the case, it will work great on the D3000, with the exception of autofocus. These older AF and AF-D lenses require a motor drive built into the body to focus these lenses. Newer lenses (AF-S type) have a motor built right into the lens itself. Nikon’s low end DSLR bodies don’t have a motor for focusing older lenses, but they still work great as manual focus lenses. Taking out this motor helped them keep costs down and bodies compact.
If you want autofocus on a digital camera with this lens, you might look into a used D80 D70 or D50 body if you are trying to save a bit of money. Otherwise, the cheapest current body that will drive the lens is the spectacular D90.
One more thing to consider is that most DSLRs have smaller image sensors than a full frame of film. This means that the lens will have a crop factor of 1.5x. In other words, your 28-80mm lens will seem like a 42-120mm lens when shot on a DSLR. This isn’t a big deal, just something to be aware of.
